Fun on Friday {Halloween Edition}

Thursday, October 29, 2015

Time for another round of five random thoughts in my head on this Friday...Tomorrow is Halloween and tonight we are carving our pumpkins so I thought it was only appropriate to do a Halloween themed post today!

O N E
For the last few years we have been holding our Annual MAC Pumpkin Carving Party! This year the time sorta' got away from me, but by gosh we are still carving pumpkins together tonight. It's tradition! My cousin who is getting deployed soon is coming to stay the weekend with us so I am hoping to surprise him a little and make it a fun celebration to honor him as well.

I have been busy putting the finishing touches around the house for Halloween and have had the sweetest little helper (a friend of ours daughter.) She was so excited to help! Since we are going to spend Halloween night this year at home passing out candy to the million trick-or-treaters that swarm our neighborhood, I decided to go ahead and decorate again this year! Pictures to come. But in the meantime, here is last year's entry table! The photo on the left is when Ryan and I dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf (one of our favorite costumes to date) and the photo on the right is of me and my sister in our costumes when we were little. It is one of my favorite pictures of us. Obviously, nothing has changed with me. I still don't want to share my candy.

Making these bars! They're too cute and are right up my sweet tooth alley.

Did you know that if you put tonic water under a black light it apparently glows? You can bet I will be testing that out this weekend. Has anyone else tried this or have any tricks? We normally replace a few light bulbs around the house with black lights to give off a spooky glow, so we will see!

One of Ryan's favorite "Halloween" things I make once a year is mummy dogs! This will be another snack we will be serving on Halloween !Mummy-Hot-Dogs-2-531x800

And of course it wouldn't be Halloween if I didn't have Hocus Pocus playing in the background. My sister and I have watched this movie together every year since we were babies practically!
I laughed when I read this about 52 Thoughts you have when you watch Hocus Pocus as an adult! Hilarious....

And with that my friends, I wish you a Happy (ALMOST) Halloween!

Fall Style Picks

Wednesday, October 28, 2015

The weather in Northern California has been far from "fall" lately. I guess high eighties counts as a cool down when temps are usually over 100...

Moving on. I wouldn't consider myself that stylish, and I sometimes wish I could pull off certain trends, but I just can't. It's fun to look though! Anyways, I went ahead and did a round up of things I currently have and like or that I've got my eye on lately when it comes to fall fashion. Most of them come from my favorite (and affordable) store, you'll never guess.

I'll give you a hint, it starts with a T.

I am all about that accessory game and have never felt complete leaving the house without a little jewelry. This statement necklace is so perfect to dress up or down! I love the sparkle and neutral colors mixed with a pop of blue. But I am also loving the tassel and leather, fringe trend! I love necklaces.

Here's a cute pheasant style dress option that would look cute paired with some booties.

I got these leopard flats last year and they are my go-to flats when I am wearing something simple and want to pull it altogether. I've seen lots of other's similar, but at $14.99, they're so affordable and adorable. Or there's this high heel option if that's more your style. BOOM.

The blanket scarf trend has definetly caught some momentum. I saw them around last year, but now that plaid is ALL the rage, I have seen a lot more options. I saw one I loved when I was visiting Texas and now I have buyers remorse I didn't pick it up. I decided this would be a fun one to try! I couldn't resist the red and white plaid.

I bought this jacket recently and think it's the most comfortable and flattering jacket and I love the olive color. It looks like it's on sale right now too. Lucky! Ryan calls it my army jacket and jokingly salutes me when I wear it, so there's that.

Um...this hat? Gotta have it. Christmas tree cutting this year hopefully in snow...so yeah, it's a need right? Also, I don't know what it is about hats because I rarely feel like I have anywhere to wear them too, but these floppy hats are so cute too!
What is your favorite fall trend right now? Is there something I am missing out on? Do share!

That time at Hobby Lobby..

Tuesday, October 27, 2015

Ok, so hands down one of my all-time favorite stores is Hobby Lobby.

It's probably a good thing that the closest store is give or take 2 hours away. When I do go to one, I need a little time. I once spent three hours in there with my cousin. We still weren't ready to leave but had other stuff to do that day so had to.

It's now at the top of our list to go to when I visit (aside from Target and Home Goods.) So when I drove up to see her this weekend, we had to go. We made a deal we wouldn't be in there for three hours this time. Maybe two but definitely not three. Who does that? We had other stores to see!

While strolling the aisles, I saw this print and realized it sounded a lot like me. Here's basically what it read:

I love sunshine.
I love cupcakes.
I love twinkle lights.
I love holidays.
I love fresh flowers.
I love sweet tea.
I love rainbow sprinkles.
I love quiet afternoons.
I love holding your hand.
I love milkshakes.
I love birthday cards.
I love rainboots.
I love handwritten letters.
I love used books.
I love campfire stories.
I love long telephone calls.

And then it hit me. Life isn't all that complicated, or it doesn't have to be at least. But why oh why do we make it that way? (Or is this just me?)

DO YOU and what makes YOU HAPPY! That's it. It's so easy to get caught up in the bad of the world, but really, it can be as simple as this. Who knew something as simple as this little print could be so profound.

With that being said, can someone pass me a cupcake? K thanks.

Fri-YAY!

Friday, October 23, 2015

Yay! We made it another week! Here's a few things I've been up to this week...

O N E
I've been trying to make my Christmas List for my Mother because in all truthfulness, she wanted a list from us months ago. I do envy her because she is always able to actually enjoy the season and month of December because unlike me who is a little last minute, she has everything packaged, wrapped and ready to go. She is quite the over-achiever. I'm basically eye-balling all of the Pioneer Woman bakeware and dishes. Why do they have to be so cute and my favorite color red!?

Not sure if you saw my previous post, but I posted some Fall things I am loving for Fall & Thanksgiving Entertaining. I cannot wait to be hosting again at our house and think I really need this Guest Book for our family to sign!

Last weekend Ryan took me agreed to go to the pumpkin patch with me. There's a place about an hour from where we live that is supposed to be the best pumpkin patch around. Little did I know, it's more like a kid's amusement park with a pumpkin patch. There were so many kids everywhere! Me? I love kids!. But the amount of children running around overwhelmed me. There was not too much for 2 kid-less couples to do here, lets just put it that way. I was happy when we left with 2 pumpkins and a gallon of homemade apple cider, and of course a picture of us pumpkin patching it up! I think we will hold off returning here until we have some children in tow! haha...

I'm headed up to the mountains this weekend for a quick overnight trip to see my cousin and I cannot wait for a day of crafting, junking, and catching up! I'm overjoyed with the thought of cooler temps also as I might actually get to bust out some of my fall clothes! The plan is to make soup for dinner and I'm thinking this recipe sounds delicious. My Mom makes something like this and it might sound weird, but it's sooo good. Slow Cooker Tortellini and Sausage Soup 3 - Chew Nibble Nosh

Speaking of Fall clothes...this vest is EVERYTHING! I have been dreaming of scoring this sherpa vest (along with every other woman apparently as it is sold out everywhere!) and I can't wait for Pearl & Monroe to restock! I think it would be perfect to take some fall photos in. Now wish me luck that I can grab one before they're gone again!

Fall & Thanksgiving Entertaining

Wednesday, October 21, 2015

Last year was our first year hosting our large family at our home for Thanksgiving. I love to entertain and having a full house last year was so rewarding and worth it. Here's a round up of things I am loving for Fall entertaining.

I'm already daydreaming about this year's table setting and all of the details. I love making it a special occasion everyone will remember for years to come. I especially love the idea of having a Guest Book for people to sign and write in throughout the day. I have the pedestal bowl already and am thinking I will fill it with white pumpkins and maybe cascading flowers.

All that aside, I love this time of year and getting to spend time with family. And I can hardly wait to host them all again!

Twinkle Twinkle Baby Shower

Monday, October 19, 2015

My Best Friend (who me and my family refer to as the middle sister) is expecting her first baby in December and I was so excited to get to shower her recently! We have been the best of friends since grade school and before that our parents were friends. It's still a little surreal that MY Bestie will be having her very own precious babe, but I could not be happier for her on this new adventure. Her and her husband are going to be surprised when the baby is born so the theme of the shower was "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and the colors were mint and gold.

Mama-to-Be is a LOT like me. It's no wonder we are Best Friends! She likes things a certain way and when I showed up the day of to decorate, of course she had a few personal touches to add as well. She makes me laugh!

The day was beautiful and Baby and Mama were definitely showered with lots of love and goodies.
Mama Bear Maris
Since they don't know if they're having a boy or girl, we had a voting station set up. I spray painted clothespins gold and guests used one to vote. Majority vote was BOY! I cannot wait to find out...
Mama Maris made the star favor cookies and Daddy-to-Be made the Twinkle sign. The metallic baby balloons were actually the same ones they used in their announcement. I never knew it but you can have them refilled, which is what they did!
The three "sisters" youngest to oldest!
I cannot wait to be an Auntie in a few short weeks!

My cousin sent me this the other day and there are no words that could ring any truer, especially for us. I love my tribe!

T W O
I will admit this whole "blogging" thing has me feeling all kinds of things! I am enjoying writing again so, so much, but I still have so many insecurites about putting my life out there in a public space. But I am reminded daily when I read so many of my favorite blogs that this community of woman is so incredibly supportive. I have so much to learn (hint hint: send help) and don't really feel like I quite know what I am doing yet, but I feel like everyone has to start somewhere. Here I am...showing up! And I always want to remember why I started this in the first place.

T H R E E
I'm gearing up for Halloween and I found this picture from our Mac Pumpkin Carving Party last year and I guess it's time me and Hubby went and picked us out some pumpkins this year so we can get to carving. I tried to carve a portrait of Hank. Clearly he wasn't impressed.

You guys, big news around these parts, I finally think I mastered driving the Jeep. It's not that I couldn't drive a stick, its just that...well, I was a little rusty. While Ryan was gone hunting this week, I put on my big girl pants and practiced, practiced, practiced, and even got the guts to drive to work by myself. I can't wait for him to get home to surprise him!

Speaking of Ryan and hunting...#proudwifey
I hadn't talked to him in a couple of days and I got this picture and had to do a double take. I'm like, so does this mean you can you hurry home now because I KINDA miss you?! It put the biggest smile on my face. I am so proud of my Man and happy for him that he was able to fill his out of state tag. Although he didn't come home early, early, he IS coming home today, which makes this Friday the BEST!

Ok, that's all I've got for today! Have a beautiful weekend!

DIY: Dog Treat Station & Paw Print Canvas

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

Ok, so I might be giving away my crazy dog-mom status right now, but you know how lots of people have cutesty little coffee stations or bar areas set up in their house?

Well, we have a dog treat station.

I told you our dogs are like our children! It seemed like the logical thing to do so we have a central station where we keep their treats and meds. They know the sound of the cookie jar opening. Actually, Ryan and I have to spell c-o-o-k-i-e otherwise be prepared to give them one right then and there.

If you're anything like me then grab yourself a tray, some treats, and this quick and easy DIY paw print canvas idea and you've got yourself a dog treat station.

The tall white jar is from Pottery Barn and was given to me by my Mother-In-Law. The smaller jar was from the dollar section at Target that I chalkboard painted and wrote "Dog Cookies" on. My cousin made me the wooden tray and I had the canvas on hand so I took the dog's paw prints and created a canvas in their honor.

The canvas was plain white so I stained it using tea bags. Didn't know you could do that? Easy! Slightly wet a tea bag and run it over whatever surface you would like to stain. I liked that it gave it a more weathered look.

Then I wrangled each dog long enough (outside!) to dip their paws in some brown, acrylic paint and stamped the canvas. I used a brush to make sure I covered the entire paw so I got a complete paw when I stamped.

After it dried, I went back with a metallic sharpie and wrote their names and their nicknames underneath, then dated the canvas at the bottom.

I love how it turned out and that it cost me (almost) nothing to create!

10 Things About Me

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Today I thought it would be fun to do a quick 10 things you may not know about me to introduce myself!

Random, fun things that I am sure you're just dying to know all about...so here goes!

1. I met my husband on a blind date. (I'll have to share that story another day.)

2. I am obsessed with sweets. Anything sweet! It is my biggest weakness, and no matter how full I am, I always have room for dessert. #givemeallthecookiesandcakeandicecream

3. I once lived in Germany for 3 months on an army base where I worked in the preschool. I became extremely close with one of the families there and we still keep in touch to this day!

4. I have never broke a bone in my body.

5. I am an older sister (even though she's taller than me!) and I will never stop being protective.

6. Big cities always look dreamy to travel to and visit, but whenever I go to one, they always stress me out. I am not a city girl!
I enjoy them more from afar, haha.
7. I used to be obsessed with the 80's. Like before leggings were back "in." Think crimped hair, anything neon, leggings and all the music.

8. I have the worst habit of starting a book but never finishing it.

9. I played softball in high school and growing up for years, but then hurt my back. I still wish I would have been able to continue playing in college. I still miss it!

10. Parties and event planning are my jam. I love to entertain!

Five on Friday {My FIRST!}

Friday, October 9, 2015

Now that fall is in full swing, I figured I would do a quick recap of this summer! I'm a little behind on my decorating this year, but I plan on tackling that this weekend! TGIF...

Oh, and just for kicks, if anyone is wondering, Christmas is only 77 days away...

And now for a few of my favorite moments from Summer 2015:

O N E
I randomly won tickets to the Florida Georgia Line & Thomas Rhett Concert so my cousin and I went  and met up with my sister and it was an absolute blast. They put on an amazing show! And now I will always pay for seats at a concert because, WORTH IT!

Annual Bucks Lake Birthday {BLB} Weekend with all the family. Every year to celebrate our birthdays, all of us cousins get together to celebrate with a weekend of camping and entirely too much fun. We always leave with a million memories and inside jokes. #dolphin

T H R E E
I baked quite a few pies and zucchini bread with all of the fresh garden veggies I had people giving me, and even made time to do a little canning of my hot pepper and plum jelly.

We went to the California State Fair for the first time!

And Hubby and I took to too many Jeep rides to count and then decided we had to buy our own. Jeep hair don't care.
P.P.S. I laughed out loud when I read this about Fall 20 years ago...Pogs, Boy Meets World, and NO PSL's? What!? Is it even FALL??
