Beauty Finds

When it comes to beauty, I will be the first to tell you I have no idea what I am doing and I have a lot to learn. Even with all of the information, tutorials and recommendations available at our fingertips, I still feel clueless. I've pretty much worn the same makeup since highschool with minor tweaks to my routine over the years. It doesn't take me hours to get ready or do my makeup and I like that. I know I'm pretty lucky with my skin type, not too oily not too dry, and despite struggling with some serious acne back in the day, I really am not trying to conceal too much, I mainly just want to achieve a smooth, finished look to my face.

I know it's terrible but I really only wash my face in the shower and I don't use any fancy products. I put on moisturizer every morning not just on my face but on my neck too (words of wisdom from my Grandma) followed by a light foundation, dab of blush and my eyes. Aside from that, I just started wearing lipstick regularly. I've always been a chapstick addict kinda' girl. There's no shame in my Lip Smacker game, those things smell delicious!

Anyways, I recently added a few things to my routine and thought I'd share those today!

/ My true beauty expert friend (Bekah, I'm looking at you!) recommended a local shop in town that sells all types of homemade and natural products. For my local gals, it's Live Wise Bath & Beauty Bar downtown. She always raves about her masks she gets there, but I was in the market for a gentle face wash so I stopped in there to check out what they had. I picked up their clear complexion bar and I use that to wash my face everyday now. It's a very mild formula made with goats milk and it has been working great!

/ My Grandma years ago told me that wearing moisturizer was her secret to keeping her skin in tip top shape and I agree! Moisturizing is important for so many reasons but a major one is the sun protection it provides. I had previously used Neutrogena and Cera-ve but this winter my skin was suffering and I was looking for something to new to try. Cue Live Wise to the rescue again! I found their whipped coconut moisturizer and I cannot say enough good things about it. I will admit that I was hesitant assuming it would leave y skin too oily, but it doesn't at all. It is made with about 5 ingredients (one being love, lol) so I feel good putting it on my face everyday. It smells amazing too! I asked the gal who makes it about sun protection cuz' ain't nobody got time for sun damage or skin cancer and she informed me that coconut oil is a natural sun protector. I had no idea!

/ My makeup of choice has always been BareMinerals powder. I saw they came out with this new product. It's called complexion rescue and it's a tinted hydrating gel that goes on like foundation. I thought I would give it a try on the gal at the counter's recommendation. I use the brush they recommend to apply it and it feels so cool going on your face and if you wanted to skip powder after applying you totally could. It has just enough tint and coverage that it could easily be worn alone and layered for extra coverage.

/ I was wearing the pressed powder by BareMinerals but after talking to someone at Macy's, apparently they are changing their formulas and moving away from that so I switched back to the loose powder. The more you blend it, the more natural it looks. It gives that flawless and finished look on your face. I use a little of their warmth around my face to highlight and contour too.

/ To add a little more color to my life, I picked up their blush in 'Secret' and some lipstick. Both are subtle yet make a huge difference in my overall look when I take the extra step to apply.

/ I finish my look usually by adding some eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara and I'm ready!

5 on Friday | Healthy Weeknight Meal Ideas

Friday, May 6, 2016

Happy Friday to you all!

Today I am sharing 5 things we have been eating lately as we attempt to limit the sweets, treats and let's face it, eat a bit more healthy. I figured some of you could relate. Personally, I enjoy hearing what other people eat because for me it is one of the biggest challenges I face when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes time does not allow you to make a 5-star, perfectly healthy meal especially when you work all day, so I think it's important to have a few recipes you can turn to when time is not on your side.
Here are 5 ideas for weeknight meals we I have been eating lately that have been quick and easy to prepare:
*I took the liberty of adding my hubby's preference when we eat these meals in case your man is a little picky too :)

1 | Homemade Turkey Meatballs + Steamed Zucchini with Tomato Sauce
This is one of my favorites! I love using ground turkey to make burgers or meatballs. You can season to your liking, add an egg or 2, and throw in some ground oats, and form into meatballs. I found a pasta sauce I love and it has about 3 ingredients; tomatoes, basil and italian seasonings and I use that for the sauce. It is easy to take the leftovers for lunch the next day too!
*husband approved: Serve with noodles.

2 | Pulled Pork
I love making pulled pork because it is so versatile. I buy a pork shoulder, use a homemade dry rub and place in the crockpot all day while I'm at work on low with a bit of water in the bottom. No heavy BBQ sauce for me. Sometimes I serve it with a veggie on the side or sometimes I eat it over a sweet potato. It also makes the best leftovers for tacos, taco salad, or any salad for that matter. You could do the same with a whole chicken in the crockpot too, FYI!
*husband approved: Add BBQ sauce and serve on sandwich thin bun.

3 | Homemade Sweet Potato 'Fries'
Can you really call something a 'fry' if it's not fried? Well, I do. I take a whole sweet potato, peel the skin, spray with coconut oil, salt + pepper those babies then throw them in the oven at 425 degrees for 25 minutes. So they aren't exactly the most crunchy, but they are satisfying and delicious nonetheless.
*actually husband approved!

4 | Protein Style Burgers
I get the premade burger patties from Costco, BBQ them, then add lots of different toppings. I try and stay away from dairy, but instead I opt for goat cheese. Don't knock it til you try it, it's my favorite, and absolutely so tasty! I usually sauté onions and mushrooms, then love adding pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, avocado, and mustard or whatever else your heart desires.
*husband approved: add bacon and sometimes a bun.

5 | Owning it and being real here.
Some nights just call for a bowl of cereal and in that case I love a bowl of chex with almond milk! Sometimes I'll even slice up a banana or add blueberries!
*husband approved: macaroni + cheese or dijorno. lol!

Let me know in the comments what your go-to meals are!

Guys, or shall I say Gals because I know it's just my gals who read this...Anyways, I wanted to share a few things I have stumbled upon lately and loved in the clothing and beauty department! Maybe you will too.

If you're looking for the perfect pair of shorts look no further. These shorts are everything. Hands in the air, literally! I normally hate shorts but they are just the right length, have the trending, frayed-but-not-too-frayed edge, and are wait for it...a bit stretchy! So perfect for summer. And by the way, I got the darker stain.

I also found the most comfortable capris from American Eagle (currently BOGO 1/2 off!) They also have the frayed bottom but I think they're so cute, affordable, and again the perfect length for shorty-short me!

I bought these sandals in the cognac and gold combo and wore them all day shopping the other day and they were so cute and comfortable that I went back and ordered the black and gold combo. You can't beat a good pair of sandals especially when summers around here are over 100 degrees. I basically live in them.

While I was at it I went ahead and took advantage of the BOGO sale on shoes at Target and decided to give these a try. I tried on a pair similar and fell in love but of course didn't have my size in stock, but I liked these because of the peep toe, leather, and fringe combo. They had good reviews too and are supposed to be comfortable!

Speaking of trending, this off the shoulder thing is going nuts. I don't know how I feel about it, and to be honest I am a little hesitant to try it. Don't take me wrong, people look adorable, but for me? Not sure how it would go.  If I were to branch out, I would be curious to try this off the shoulder dress I spotted at Target. I think I'll check the store first and see how it looks.

My cruise is right around the corner and I keep thinking about what to pack. Unlike past vacations, it's actually going to be cold! I'm thinking I need a good pair of casual shoes or new casual sneakers to walk around in, but I don't know! This is my first time cruising! I know there will be a couple formal nights where I am going to want to get dressed to the nines, but have yet to find the perfect ensemble. Help!

I purchased these sparkly earrings over the weekend and wasn't sure how I would do with dangly earrings, but I wore my hair up and loved them. Can't beat a little sparkle. I told my Mom that this weekend when clothes let me down, shoes and jewelry always fit!

I also ordered a few new beauty items to try from Target (spend $20/get $5 gift card) so I'll be watching the mail for those beauts to arrive. Trying to step out of my zone! I already received the lip gloss and it is a very natural, light color, but I love how it smells first off and it goes on really smooth. I got it in the seduction color. I know, wild of me.
