Shoe Obsessed

Friday, October 27, 2017

I feel like it had been so long since I got a pair of new shoes, but the other day I was doing some shopping and lucked out finding some affordable options that are great for work. Since sandal season is coming to a close and fall is officially in the air, it's the perfect time to switch up your usual shoe routine. Mules are all the rage this year and although I'd seen so many cute styles, I just didn't think I could pull them off. But I was wrong! Oh my gosh you guys, if you haven't tried a pair of these slides yet, you MUST! They are the perfect mix of effortless, casual and stylish, not to mention they are soooooooo comfortable!

Fall Shoe Refresh

All of these are under $50!

I just got these mules on sale at Target and am thinking about ordering another pair because they are that amazing. (FYI: I did size up a 1/2 size because they run a little small.) I've gotten to where I can hardly wear anything with a heel due to my back so I am definitely loving this relaxed style for a work option. But let's be serious, I plan on basically wearing them all the time! My friend said they are business in the front and a party in the back and that's quite possibly the best way you could describe them!

I also picked up the taupe pair with cut out details to pair with my favorite cuffed jeans and moccasin style loafers for another work option. I got them in black, but they also come in an amazing olive color. I love the suede on each pair and the loafers feel like I'm wearing work approved slippers, so I'll take it.

I told you, I'm shoe obsessed right now! There are so many cute styles out there that you can get for a bargain. I always check ebates to see if I can earn cashback and then check for any and all available promo codes. I love using my Redcard at Target for the free shipping online and 5% savings. I encourage you to try something different and let me know what you think!

Halloween House Tour

Wednesday, October 25, 2017

October is always such a fun month for many reasons. The crisp air, the changing leaves, and of course it basically kicks off the fun holiday season, starting with Halloween. I never used to decorate much for Halloween until I married Ryan. In my family we would always go all out on our costumes, but we decorated more for fall. Well, once I met my MIL and saw her house at Halloween (not to mention her giving me some of her decor she didn't use as much anymore) I have done it every year! I'll be hosting Thanksgiving this year as well so I mainly decorated the entry way and then added bits and pieces of other spooky decor throughout the house. I started decorating outside this weekend but have more to do because we have a ton of trick or treaters, not to mention, I think the neighbors are trying to show us up and I just can't have that, hahaha.
I've added a little to my collection every year and wait until things go on sale and buy them for the next year. The skull and spell book were marked way down at World Market a few years ago and the Dollar Tree is another great place to check. That's where I found the spooky pictures!
I absolutely love this candy bucket my mom and sister got for me at a flea market! Isn't it adorable? Just an old cast iron pot on a pedestal if you're feeling like a DIY project.
One of my all-time favorite costumes when we dressed up as The Big Bad Wolf & Little Red Riding Hood and one of my all-time favorite pictures of me and my little sis on Halloween 25+ years ago.
I have to wait until the last minute to buy candy might not make it until Halloween. #sweettooth
Do you decorate for Halloween?

Effortless Entertaining: Charcuterie

Wednesday, October 18, 2017

It's no secret that I enjoy entertaining. For any reason or no reason at all, I will find something to celebrate! I love the gathering, the socializing, the toasting, and most importantly the festive details that go into making any occasion feel special.

I used to spend the days leading up to an event preparing several dishes, planning an extensive menu and baking, but then LIFE happens, and basically I don't always have time for that. This doesn't change the fact that I still want to host a great party and really create something unique for my guests to enjoy. And so, out of this was born my love for charcuterie trays!
If you've never heard of charcuterie, it's basically a fancy French word for cured or cooked meats. Essentially, what I am talking about is meat and cheese tray with a twist, but I love referring to it as charcuterie. (In reality, it's more of a cheese, fruit, cracker, spread, meat and nut tray, lol.) I am very adventurous when it comes to trying new meats, cheeses, spreads and garnishes and there is really no right or wrong way to do it, which is part of the fun!

Some of my favorite things to use:
Hot Pepper Jelly + Cream Cheese
Brie + Goat Cheese
Pretzel crackers and/or sourdough baguette
Green grapes
Almonds + Pistachios
Prosciutto + Salame
Mustards and/or fun spreads
I always have a few different cheese, crackers, green grapes, and a variety of meats and nuts. I love perusing the aisles of small markets to see what I can find, but I also love Trader Joe's selections! I've linked a few of my favorite things I like to use above, but have fun with it and let me know if you have any other questions!

Falling for Oils: A Fall-inspired Make & Take Party

Monday, October 16, 2017

I recently hosted a gal's night for a festive make & take party! We sipped champagne, laughed until after midnight, and created a few DIY's using Young Living essential oils. A night with the girls is always SO good for the soul, I'm telling you! I love having a reason to get together and I thought this party would be the perfect way to welcome fall and create fun things using oils, so that's just what we did!
Anyways, a little background about oils if you're curious...(if not skip down to the pretty party pictures.) I started using essential oils earlier this year and I've never looked back! I was so curious about them and one night at bunco my friend Stephanie and I started talking about them. I was instantly determined to start incorporating them into my life and to learn more about the benefits and soon after bought my starter kit. I chose Young Living because it's hard enough to worry about everything that goes into your body and with these oils, I don't have to be concerned with what they are mixed with or if they will harm me because they are 100% pure.

I use oils for many things. Just ask my Dad, he jokes everyday, "Do you have an oil for that?" and the answer is always YES! I'm not saying oils are a cure all because they aren't, but for me it's a simple and natural change I've made in my life that supports me in so many aspects of my life. I used to absolutely be obsessed with candles and would burn them everyday. I no longer do because I now diffuse oils! I don't use a bunch of generic and harmful cleaners, instead I use Thieves and lemon to clean my house. When my muscles are aching, I turn to my oils instead of popping a pill. We sleep better at night. These are just a few ways I use oils daily, but the list goes on.
THE best pumpkin dip recipe here!

I'm learning more everyday and have so enjoyed introducing my friends to oils. If you're curious like I was, let me know!

29 Forever

Wednesday, August 23, 2017

So last week I turned 29.

For the first time since I can remember, I was actually apprehensive about a birthday. I am usually giddy with excitement and one that is known to go all out to celebrate, even if that means planning my own birthday with a blow up slip n' slide in the backyard like I may or may not have done last year...

This year it felt different and somewhat depressing if I am being transparent. It seems like so much has been going on in our lives and it's hard to face the reality that I am quickly approaching 30. The past two years or so have been so full of growth, learning, love and loss. Most importantly, LIFE! It's happening so quickly and perhaps it is the stage of life we are in where we see glimpses of the future and also pieces of the past fading away that leaves me wanting to live in this exact moment for as long as possible. But as we know, nothing lasts forever.

I must say I was completely wrong about my birthday. The day started and ended with such love that I cannot imagine a better day. I usually stop for coffee at my parents each morning before work since we live in the same neighborhood, and when I arrived my Dad told me my Mom been called into work early. I found this a little odd, but he played it well. Little did I know when I pulled into work, there she was waiting for me with balloons, the most gorgeous succulents for my office and a piece of chocolate cake. She is truly the best Mom!

When I walked into work, my office was decked out by my office gals with birthday banners, more chocolate cake (I sense a theme) and the sweetest card about "just winging it." It was absolute perfection for this card lovin' gal.
The day continued with gorgeous flowers from my hubby, nonstop texts, cards and phone calls with well wishes, and by the end of the day, I don't think I can remember a time where I felt so LOVED and lucky to have that many people who cared about little ole' me. I have always valued being thoughtful above all else, and it was so nice to feel that I was being thought of in return.
I kicked off the evening with a fun dinner out to a restaurant I had been wanting to try with my family. It was delicious and the service did not disappoint! Not to mention, the Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra playing in the background. The ambiance was definitely my cup of tea, so classy and it felt like we took a step back into time!

We ended it with more ice cream and my sweet cousin who is a waitress at a nearby restaurant serving me a flaming birthday shot (that I had to have help finishing, haha) and returning home to sweet gifts. Is it a sign that you're getting older or just more practical when you ask for a vacuum for your birthday, because I did. And my wish came true! You guys, I am now the proud owner of a roomba! Praise hands!
Anyways, it's still my birthday month and I plan on doing a little more celebrating with some of my best gals this weekend and I forsee us kareoking to Taylor Swift's "Feeling 22" because, well we can.

Cheers to another year and being #29forever!

Oh, Hello! + Catching Up

Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Oh hi, world! I apologize in advance for the unintentional blogging hiatus...Even though it feels like I am constantly formulating and writing blog posts in my head, those thoughts haven't actually made it to this space of mine in what feels like an eternity. With that being said, let me jump right in! Here's a quick life update and to hoping that I can make this a regular checking in place again very soon.

I would love to bring you some better content and pictures, but alas, the dog dogs chewed up my actual camera (oops to me for totally leaving within their reach!) so instead here's a quick photo dump from my phone!

1 / Dad Retired
My Dad officially retired at the beginning of July so I organized a surprise retirement party for him to celebrate and honor his 33 years of service this past weekend! It all came together, I had lots of help and support of our amazing family and friends, and the best part was him pulling up and totally being shocked! I was actually surprised when I was scouring the internet for ideas there were not more retirement ideas out there, so perhaps I will do a proper recap in case there is a time you might need some ideas for the same type of celebration!
 2 / House Projects Galore
So the kitchen was the first of many projects on the inside of the house that I tackled which included a repainting our cabinets, redoing the counter tops, replacing the sink and getting a new stove. What has transpired since that is a whole other post! Hint hint, the list now includes a new dishwasher since ours gave out! Let's just say, I can lend quite a bit of advice if you're considering changing things up in your home or what you should consider before jumping right in like me and then totally wondering WHY!?
How we're all feeling about working on the house lately.
3 / Being Present + Content
I will blame some of my absence on the fact that I have been making a serious effort to be more present in all that I do. I have struggled a lot with being present on social media and sharing bits and pieces of our life while it is happening, but it has been so much less stress to always try and take that perfect picture with the just right caption to accompany it. Also, if I know I am having fun and living my best life, who really needs to know except maybe those that already know because they are living it with me, am I right?!
Truthfully, the constant house improvements and non-stop projects we have been doing and I keep dreaming up have actually forced me to have some serious conversations with myself about learning to embrace what IS and just be C O N T E N T. I feel like I am stuck in a never-ending cycle of spending my time changing things and looking towards what is next rather than enjoying and just living. I find myself saying, "Once I do this one thing, then this" and it keeps going on and on. Just owning and embracing it here because it is a work in progress, friends!

4 / Bocce League
Photos Via Rach
Our favorite local winery started a Bocce League and I convinced my hubby and our parents to join so that has added a little midweek fun to our schedules this summer. It's also grown into something much bigger as more friends and family joined so it's been a blast having some good ole' fashioned competition, sipping wine and not having to worry about dinner that night since they have an awesome food truck down there too! If you haven't played Bocce, Ohmygosh, you need to try it!

5 / Stitch Fix
I signed up for Stitch Fix and haven't looked back. I have so been enjoying my regular fix deliveries that arrive on my porch every few weeks! I had originally read about bloggers who were receiving personalized, styled boxes of clothes to their home and was intrigued, and then my best friend became a stylist for them so I decided that for $20 it was worth it to me to give it a shot and I have been so happy with my decision. If you haven't heard of Stitch Fix, I recommend it, especially if you are anything like me and I have zero motivation to actually go shopping and try on clothes and then usually leave disappointed because nothing fits! I just received my Fix #5 and ended up keeping all 5 items for a discount. If you're interested, check out their website and you can use my referral link to sign up here if you decide you want to try it like me!

6 / Essential Oils
So I also jumped on the oiling train a couple months ago, and although I can't say that oils have completely changed my life, I have loved incorporating them into my daily routine! I have been able to cut back on household cleaning products and instead now turn to my oils for common solutions or ailments. We use our diffuser every night to support good sleep and also it's the first thing I turn on when I walk in the house instead of lighting a candle now. I use Young Living for many reasons and my favorite go to oils that I always keep on hand are lavender, peppermint, stress away, and cedarwood! There are so many amazing resources out there, but if you are interested, feel free to reach out!
 7 / Fun
Ok, so I couldn't end this post without mentioning some of the fun we have been up to as well! It always seems like time flies in the summertime and I attribute that to there being so much to do this time of the year. We've both taken on more responsibilities at both of our jobs coupled with the endless house projects and other craziness that has taken place in the past few months, it has been hard for us to take a traditional getaway vacation like we usually take every year. Instead we have been able to getaway a few weekends for some camping with family and even some wine tasting to celebrate our 6th Anniversary!
Cheers to you if you made it this far. Thanks for reading! I will be back soon with more to share.

Happy Birthday to my Hubby!

Tuesday, March 14, 2017

It's been awhile, but hiiiiii!

From the moment I met my hubby on our blind date 8+ years ago, I knew I was going to marry him. I mean obviously at the time I didn't let him know this, but I just had this feeling that he was my future husband and the search was over. Little did he know, Hahaha...

I am SO glad that was the case because I can't imagine my life without him.

I had to pop in real quick to wish him a very, very Happy Birthday today! I'll save the sap for his card, but I hope he knows how special he has always been and will always be to me!

Fun side note, the fact that he was born on National Pi Day also is just one of those things that has always made me laugh because I'm literally the dessert queen over here. And yes I realize it's 'pi' and not 'pie,' but still, it is just one of those little things that gives me the biggest smile when I think of it.

I doubt you'll read this honey, but Happy Birthday! I'm so glad you were born and I can't wait to celebrate you today.
